What's in a flag?

The Olympics is simply an international sports competition, people gather from all over the world to compete while representing their country, not their ideals, not their beliefs and not their agendas. There is nothing to say they cannot represent these things but the Olympics is not the place for it as it has clearly been defined as just countries competing and the best way to represent your country is to use the internationally recognized symbol for it.

But what if you dislike what the flag "represents"? A flag is a symbol that represents a country, there is often a story behind it, but ultimately it is just an image that people associate with a country. People claim to dislike a flag because certain people performed certain actions while waving it but really, holding a grudge against a flag, rather than the people whose actions you disagree with, is ridiculous; and where would it end? People don't like some of Britain's actions in the past, should they stop using the English language? Should they change the symbols used to represent the letters? or perhaps just change the name of the language? Of course not, that would be a foolish hollow gesture.

At the Olympics you are their for the sole purpose of representing your country and you are expected to do this by wearing your countries flag, adding any other flag or message is misleading and to viewers from other countries it would surely be confusing.
