A bad mix.

The big debate.
Sports and Politics.
Is it a good mix?

I don't think it is. When i think of Sports i think of everyone coming together and uniting as one, cheer, joy and excitement. When i think Politics it makes my blood boil. I find it unnecessary to have a negative aspect on everything and thats all politics seems to do these days, bring up the bad issues.

In the case of Damien Hooper, the Australian Olympic Boxer and the controversey of Damien turning upto the ring in a Indigenous flag t-shirt, i think that the media and the politics behind sport has been blown way out of proportion. Since when was it a crime to voice your own opinion? I know that in the Olympics there are certain rules that Olympians must abide by, like wearing only the team and country outfits, but when you think about it, it it really that big of a deal? Yes, they are representing our nation. Yes, they must abide by the rules but Indigenous Australians are part of Australian culture. They were/are the original owners of the land we live on. So why are we discriminating again them?

Australians prides themselves on being a multicultural country and accepting of all cultures. But what part of discriminating against someone from our own country, just because they wore a t-shirt that has a picture of our indigenous culture on it, accepting? And for the whole world to see this i feel embarassed. Good on Damien for standing up for what he believes in. I believe everyone is equal and should be given the same rights. A flag is just a flag. A shirt is just a shirt. People should be focusing more on the happiness and joy you get out of watching the olympics and sport and support our fellow Australians instead of getting caught up in the bullshit that everyone will forget in a few weeks time.
