Tracking you down.

Using the internet can expose you to explicit content in which you don't want to view, such as child pornography or gore sites. Even if one becomes desensitized to these sites or to viewing them, psychologists fear that this desensitization can cause real degenerative affects on public life, Kathryn Brown goes school to school explaining the horrible nature of social networking.

Thought I'd do a post on the negative aspects of the internet, since my last post was on internet theory, this post addresses the question better.

You undoubtedly use social networking, communication tools and folksonomy (tags) in your daily routine of internet use but I'm here to give you the consequences of your actions and how they may have a degenerative affect on you.

Data mining is the act of someone gathering intelligence about you and then using this information for their own benefit. This could include things such as setting up accounts in your name, spamming you or friends with explicit content, harassing/bullying you and blackmailing you into situations. It comes under the umbrella term of Topology, someone targeting you personally and your computer usually with spyware.

Convenience will be the death of man, no longer do people have to walk down the road to buy their new book or movie, everything is either available online for a fraction of the price or for home delivery. Today we live in a world where people complain about being overweight and diabetes has increased dramatically even though there are many dieting possibilities. Not only this but illegal downloads or pirating of products has destroyed the music industry and continues to wipe profit margins from other products also.

The internet can cause a feeling of isolation and create a society of inept speaker, unable to voice opinions correctly in person or can cause Internet Addiction disorder even though some psychiatrists disagree that one can be addicted to the internet, they all agree that it can degenerate current conditions such as depression or other mentalities.

This is honestly an extremely brief over view of the consequences of internet use, don't be ignorant to Web 3.0's possibilities and that all the information you place on line is assessable whether private or not. It is essential that you:
  • Always have anti-spy ware on your devices, a simple yet effective way to delete Trojans, cookies and spyware.
  • Don't give credit card information to non-accredited sites, always do back-ground checks to ensure safety.
  • Don't leave information for everyone to view and don't leave information laying around everywhere that can create networks that lead to you
  • Never use your full name or supply a real address.
  • Check privacy setting and filters on Google, which can be changed through settings.
  • Be careful to whom you are speaking or where you are saying it, many chat logs are automatically saved to the admins computer. Also, don't talk or associate with people whom you suspect or know to have hacking capabilities, even simple ones. Some people can DDOS you with just your IP address.
