Rise of the fifth.

Internet media gets more and more popular everyday. Along with this rise in popularity Internet journalism becomes a more valid and respected aspect of the 5th estate. With online versions of most major publications, we the consumers have a far better chance to comment on and discuss news articles and current issues.

Online activist groups and petitions are a completely new way of citizen interaction and involvement, and in reverse the people or groups that are the subject of the news now have a new way of interacting with the people that read about them.

Politicians are now able to regularly interact with their voters through social media and can potentially get a better day by day view on the opinions of their voters without even having to leave their offices.

The media in many ways is able to cater more specifically to their audience through the new ways that they can interact with their audience. I think that it is a great step forward for the media to be able to be mediated in some sort of way especially by the people that read and keep up with the stories and news that are posted, printed and broadcast.
