I found Crikey easy to navigate and extremely diverse in the topics it covered. I moved from politics to entertainment, from here and abroad. Many of which linked into specific issues like feminism and interviews with many women I admire, I could have spent hours trawling through the site. I would recommend it. - Would appeal to a wider audience but perhaps a younger and further educated folk.
Also huffington post site (USA site appears to give left and right views) was of interest as it covers topics that aren't reported on our locally grown sites such as daily telegraph or smh. (appealing to Jo average aussie)
The australian abc site covers more international news but is still quite biased to wards Australian content. Supports a lean to the Left but coming closer to the middle all the time.
All these sites would appeal to both male and female and all ages dependent on what interests they have all the sites covered most topics just some in more detail than others.
